NAVARASAM

NAVARASAM is a novel written by Ishan Martin. The novel tells about the relationship between a kathakali artist and his daughter. Author tries to explain 9 emotions on the basis of his life.

CHAPTER 1

                       SRINGARA/LOVE

       A peaceful village flourished with greenery.Cattles grazing peacefully.Birds chirping and watchdogs playing along the countryside.Creatures made by the gods are making love as it is supposed to be.

        Distant cry is heard uphill.A small shabby house with a cattleshed.A man named shiva and his family lived there.Sobbering cry of a middleaged man echoed in that house.Each and every person residing in that village standing outside the creaky house.Everyone looking helpless as the grey bearded man held her deadwife.Shiva lost his wife parvathy.She was frozen and its been hours.Her beautiful face still hasn’t lost grace eventhough gracefully aged.His agony was loud and clear.He cursed the gods until he could speak no more.

        Hours passed and people forced him for cremation.He kissed parvathy for one last time.His daughter kuku was standing next to the pyre.She was wondering when her mother will return.Its hard to convince a six year old.There were no words to express how much shiva loved parvathy.He clinged onto her scarf which she used to wear all the time.He could recognize the smell of her sweat.He holded it tightly onto his chest.Its the only thing that connects him to his parvathy now.His wife was killed by unknown and he seeked vengeance.
